Stan Davis: Music

Lay Your Head in the Stable

(Stan Davis & Friends)
music & lyrics by Stan Davis
A lullaby to remind ourselves why we celebrate Christmas.
When Joseph walked with Mary
Along the dusty road
Their worldly goods they carried
They bore a heavy load

And when they stopped for shelter
From the chilling night-time wind
They asked for a bed
But the innkeeper said
"There's no room at the inn"

Lay your head in the stable
Go to sleep if you're able
May your soul find comfort
And your heart be filled with joy

Find a place for a cradle
In the lowly, livestock stable
To bring love to the earth
With the holy birth
Of your beautiful baby boy

So began the life of Jesus
A sweet and loving child
He'd devote His life to please us
So humble, kind and mild

To honour Jesus' blessing
The least we can do to show
Each month of December
We all shall remember
That night of so long ago

Lay your head in the stable
Go to sleep if you're able
May your soul find comfort
And your heart be filled with joy

Find a place for a cradle
In the lowly, livestock stable
To bring love to the earth
With the holy birth
Of your beautiful baby boy
Your beautiful baby boy
